Cobs - I know what you are thinking!!

Cobs. Yes I know what you're thinking. This place isn't a small local Bakery it's a franchise! BUT Cobs has its place in the world of Bakeries. For instance, on a sunday afternoon when most bakeries are closed, this place is open for business. When unexpected company arrives you can whip down to your local Cobs and pick up some dessert, it's not a grocery store either but a real bakery so everything is made in-house.

These guys have a great selection of breads. Thinking white bread? Not only do they sell a traditional white, but they also carry a high fibre white loaf, white farmers loaf, white vienna, white pipe loaf, white baguette...the list is almost endless. Their Artisan bread selection is also impressive, ever heard of a cranberry pistachio baguette or a jalapeƱo turkish bread? These sound wonderful!

Most importantly is their sweets selection. Here we go: scones, cinnamon buns, twists, croissants, and danish. These all come adorned with different fruits and and some are garnished with different icing sugars, depending on the time of year it is. In the winter months they have a lot more gingerbread and pumpkin products (of course) and in the warmer months a lot more lemon and fruit products. This is definitely my go to place if I want something simple. They don't sell cheesecakes here, brownies or tortes. These guys specialize in yeast type products and they do it well, for a franchise.

My confession is that I have barely tried any of their breads. Aside from their chia flax and chia fruit loaf and German rye I haven't tried any other ones. I come here for their tea times. They serve my husband and I for a weekend breakfast or after meal dessert. These are twisty breads filled with differing kinds of fruit; raspberry, blueberry, apple, cranberry, or lemon coconut. Their cinnamon buns are also really good here.

Although they have a really great selection of scones, I can't be bothered to buy them from here anymore. I find the best way to enjoy them is right out of the oven when they are warm, slathered with home made jam so that it melts off the sweet and warm scone. Yum. I haven't found a place in the city where these guys stay moist for more than a day off the shelf. Nope.

I like Cobs. No, it's not my favourite bakery, but it holds a little place in my heart...and my stomach.
